SYNOPSIS:

1950s in Poland. Problems facing boys entering adolescence in the peculiar environment of those years. The main character is exposed to pressures exerted by two extremes. On the one hand, he is fascinated with the vision of the “new man” - the faithful follower of socialist ideas, or at least the latter’s East European version. On the other hand, this vision is undermined by the pressure of truth coming from Radio Free Europe broadcasts. It is also verified by the brutality of secret police who arrest the boy’s father. There is no simple solution to this conflict of values. The film draws a highly persuasive picture of the young idealists of those days and leaves the viewer pondering what has ever happened to the minds trampled by such demagogy.
